From Aid to trade

Last week, on Thursday June 13, Mr. Johan van der Veen
(DataWatt, the Netherlands) and Mr. Tanveer Ahsan
(DevCon, Bangladesh) have signed a partnership
agreement for the supply, import and delivery of System
Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Process
Automation (PA) equipment in Bangladesh.

By signing the agreement, DevCon has become the official licensed
supplier in Bangladesh for the high quality SCADA and PA
products that are manufactured by DataWatt in the
Netherlands.

The SCADA and PA equipment is typically
used for operational monitoring and control of
infrastructure, such as water-, gas- and electricity
distribution grids, water treatment plants, transportation
and industrial systems. It can also be used for switching
the pumps in Deep Tube Wells on/off.

This partnership is a spin-off from the Water Operators
Partnership between Dhaka WASA and Vitens Evides
International (VEI). Within this project, that supports
DWASA improving its operational performance, five newly
established District Metered Areas (DMAs) will be equipped
with SCADA and PA equipment. The equipment chosen is
DataWatt’s Tricom D26 and will allow DWASA to online
monitor the production, flow, pressure and energy
consumption within the distribution network.

Online
monitoring enables DWASA to effectively and efficiently
supply water to its customers. A first pilot project is
currently under implementation in two areas: Banani North
(DMA 5.0.1) and Banani T&T Colony (DMA 5.0.2). After
successful implementation in those two DMAs, similar
systems will be implemented and applied in four more
DMAs. DWASA intends to roll-out the SCADA system in
Dhaka.
Last week DataWatt and VEI have trained the employees of
Dhaka WASA, DevCon and Optimal Track Bangladesh, how
to install and use the SCADA and PA equipment.
